Knock About Stool
An easy-to-build, functional project that most turners need
If you find it easy to get down but hard to get back up, this stool is a must-have. I find myself reaching for it to tie my shoes, check the pressure on RV tires, or for any movement that requires me to bend or squat. It's not the getting down—it's the getting up that this stool makes easier. It also makes showering possible if you have a cast on your leg, and grandchildren love them for watching cartoons.
This project draws from memories of a three-legged stool in my grandfather's milking parlor. That stool saw frequent use and had more than a few encounters with cows' hooves and tosses into the corner—hence the name "Knock About Stool." It had to be stout and able to handle rough, uneven floors. Three-legged stools have a unique ability to remain stable regardless of how uneven the floor, unlike the graceful, delicate four-legged stool with an embroidered cover that graced Grandma's front room.
Clinic will be limited to 8 participants. Charge for materials is $30. Appropriate wood for the legs and glued up seat blanks will be provided.
